The Foundation carries out and promotes studies, research and publications on various topics of relevance to the Third Sector, philanthropy and social economy, with a special focus on international comparisons, in order to draw on a wealth of experience, data and models to inspire the development of innovative solutions.

DONOR-ADVISED FUND (DAF): AN ASSET FOR DEVELOPING PHILANTHROPY WORKING PAPER

This working paper showcases Donor-Advised Funds (DAF), philanthropic funds hosted by umbrella foundations that support donors through philanthropic intermediation. The foundations assist donors helping them give effectively and strategically, while simultaneously relieving them of all legal, administrative and management obligations. The desk review and qualitative analysis carried out gave back a snapshot of the current level of use and development of DAFs in the countries where it is most widely used, with a specific focus on opportunities and players in philanthropic intermediation in Italy.

How much and how does the third sector feel the need to innovate? Is innovation considered a relevant dimension in the development processes of the Italian non-profit sector? With this working paper, Fondazione Italia Sociale, Deloitte Private and TechSoup Italia want to investigate how much the need for innovation is actually felt by Third Sector organisations, how much they are involved in innovation processes, to what extent and with what limits innovation characterises strategies, organisational choices and tools of Third Sector organisations, and what are the most used methods.

SOCIAL INNOVATION IN ITALY: STATUS QUO

This working paper, through a selection of forty of the over one hundred innovative projects analysed throughout Italy, aims to stimulate reflection on the relationship between two concepts that are increasingly recurring in the debate on the Third Sector: social innovation and impact investing. Starting from concrete experiences, the document invites us to question ourselves on what is actually social innovation and to what extent the instruments of impact finance favour it. The focus is on real practices rather than on wishes or declarations of principle.

PHILANTHROPIC RESOURCES FOR NONPROFITS DURING COVID-19: 20 CASE STUDIES

This working paper provides a first overview of the responses of governments, individuals and donors to support nonprofits engaged during the first wave of the SARS-CoV2 emergency. The intention is to explain how different actors have mobilised to support the Third Sector and to suggest ways of evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions.
